Sustainable Design for East House Renovation Posted: 17 Aug 2012 01:29 AM PDT This is East House Byron Bay, an ordinary brick house which was renovated with sustainable design applied. By this renovation, this sustainable building may achieve high energy efficiency. Built-Environment Practice did the project.
The original construction was built in 1990, and the owners wanted to transform it into an eco construction with modern design. A strong relationship of this house to the coastal environment becomes one of the considerations. This project involved green architecture design concepts. Air conditioners are not needed after the project has done, thanks to the passive solar design. A thermal mass wall also provides storage for heating the house. East-west orientation provides optimum access of the sun light through the sustainable construction. To achieve high energy efficiency, natural ventilation supported by shadings will play important roles. This sustainable home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large outdoor entertainment area, a yoga platform, and an outdoor shower. A connection between the inhabitants and the outdoor environment is important, so some outdoor facilities are provided well. A small courtyard for gardening is also available. |
