Sustainable Design of Port Ludlow Residence by FINNE Architects Posted: 31 Jul 2012 09:21 AM PDT Port Ludlow Residence is a sustainable architecture building home designed by FINNE Architects. It is a compact and modern house, located on a wooded waterfront property at the north end of the Hood Canal. It may provide a seamless indoor-outdoor environment and become a front porch to the beautiful Hood Canal.
This sustainable house is facing to the east, sited along a high bank. Its environment is very beautiful, with its water environment. To maximize the access to the beautiful view, the main living room is completely glazed, including large glass sliding doors, opened to the wood deck which is slightly raised. This will provide a seamless indoor-outdoor space. By this glazing, in summer, the living area feels like a large, open porch. Sustainable materials are used in this eco construction. This green architecture house has wooden flooring from IPE, natural wool carpet, and some other wooden furniture. The exterior part were designed to use free maintenance materials, such as two profile recycled steel metal sidings and aluminum windows and doors. Its insulation is 40% greater than usual insulation. It is also supported by a heat pump mechanical system for maximum energy efficiency. The finishing were done by using low VOC paints. This green architecture building is a two-story building volume. It has several bedrooms and several office spaces separate from the private area. With its glazing, natural daylighting will also occured, also the natural ventilation. It has large overhangs also, providing sun and rain protection. All of its features will provide a good living environment for the inhabitants.
