Green Architecture of a House in Rokko by Tato Architects

This sustainable building house is located in  the past halfway up Mt. Rokko, Kobe, Japan, was designed by Tato Architects. It was designed by considering not to be dominant to the environment. With some sustainable features used, this house will provide a new experience of how enjoying the view.

The location of this eco construction is a steep site. The first floor is designed to have glass walls, to provide extend access of the view. The design considered also that  people's eyes from below would not reach the first floor, so privacy for this floor can be kept well. This level is used for some activities with friends, also place for bicycles. Kitchen and visitors’ toilet are also available on this level.

The second floor of this green building house covers a bedroom,  storing facilities, and some facilities that need water. The roof was designed in conventional shape to join  in the existing rows of old houses. Walls for this second floor is completed with some openings, providing natural ventilation for this sustainable home building.

Some sustainable ways are used to control the temperature inside the house. A thermal storage system was set into the slab concrete, and also far-infrared radiation film floor heating system are provided  on the second floor. Natural ventilation will also help. Cantilevered balcony is expected to act as sunlight shade on summer. This eco friendly construction is also formed by using steel materials with maximum  100 kg for each material for carrying up to the site. This material will also provide strength and low maintenance needed.
