Sustainable Architecture of Great Barrier House Posted: 22 Jun 2012 07:39 AM PDT Crosson, Clarke and Carnachan has designed a green building architecture of Great Barrier House. It is located in ecologically-sensitive area, Great Barrier Island, New Zealand. Surrounded by Puriri trees, Blackwoods and other natives, this house will provide a good blend to the sustainable environment.
The sustainable building was design completely opened to the surroundings, providing more natural sun daylighting for entire rooms, and good natural ventilation. The construction is elevated to protect it from flood. Sustainable building materials were used, such as sustainably- sourced timber for the exoskeleton, low E glass to provide good insulation. Fireplace is only used when needed to provide ambience. For sustainable energy source, this house is powered by solar energy, both for the electricity and for the water heating system. Water conservation is considered and controlled very carefully. The sustainable green building ‘s bedrooms are protected and being closely located to the trees for increased privacy.
