Sustainable Design of Rainbow Duplex by Durfeld Constructors Posted: 19 Apr 2012 10:40 PM PDT Rainbow Duplex is a sustainable home built by Durfeld Constructors in collaboration with BC Passive House (BCPH). It was designed by Marken Projects Inc. This eco construction actually adopts passive design and prefab prefabricated panelized system.
This sustainable home building only needs up to 90 percent less energy for heating, cooling, and building operation than a standard house, thanks to the passive design applied. The system is also supported by several sustainable features, such as good insulated walls and roof, heat recovery ventilation system, green and high performance heat exchangers, solar powered hot water system, etc. Sustainable building materials were also used, such as bamboo floors, cross-laminated timber floors and deck, triple-pane wood windows. Rainwater harvesting system is available as an option. Each side of Rainbow Duplex consists of 1,500 square feet with an unfinished basement, three bedrooms, two bathrooms. The prefab penalized wall system provide a good performance of insulated walls, but still being diffusion open to the exterior, to ensure the prevention of mold or failures that can occur in airtight homes. This system meets the European passive house standard. This green architecture house was built by using local products, primarily. Now, this house is waiting for the Passive House certification from the international office located in Darmstadt, Germany. |
