A Sustainable Design of Peconic Bay House by Resolution: 4 Architecture Posted: 29 Mar 2012 10:00 PM PDT Peconic Bay House is a sustainable house designed by Resolution: 4 Architecture. It is a two-story prefab house, adopting the saddlebag element to accommodate vertical circulation and service items. It was designed to have high efficiency on energy with a lot of sustainable features applied.
This sustainable architecture building home is completed with a master suite, living, kitchen and dining room upstairs with two guest rooms, bathroom, a media/study and the entrance on the ground floor. The public living spaces and the master bedroom are placed in the second floor to maximize the view and the breeze from the bay. This eco friendly construction was built by using sustainable building materials too. cedar materials were used as sidings. There are also cement board panels, ipe wood decking, and bamboo flooring. The site was also chosen very carefully to avoid environmentally sensitive site. Prefab design also provide greener aspect as the disturbance to the environment is minimized. To provide energy, this house is completed with alternative energy source, 9 kW solar panels at the rooftop. It is also supported by energy efficient windows and low-E glazing, also the use of Energy Star appliances. The HVAC geothermal system is also provided to provide heating. For the landscaping, drought tolerant plants were chosen to minimize the water using. Permeable groundcover and carpark are also provided to limit water run off. This sustainable prefab home was designed with modular concept. It only uses little space at the site, thanks to the saddlebag concept that may provide extra space for the house. |
