Beautiful and Green Architecture of Maleny House by Bark Design Architects Posted: 16 Mar 2012 01:31 AM PDT A beautiful and green architecture was made by Bark Design Architects, the Maleny House. It was built on the edge of Glass House mountains. Passive design applied in the design, minimizing the energy needed. Sustainable materials were also used.
The position of this sustainable building house may provide an optimum view. The layout of this sustainable house is arranged to provide courtyard and optimal openings to provide natural ventilation and natural daylighting. The house is anchored and is seen like floating and light. Japanese idea of wabi sabi became the idea for the surfaces, finishings, and details, as the manifestation of a beauty of things imperfect, impermanent and incomplete which are allowed to weather and evolve with time. As the passive designs were involved, the orientation of this eco construction is very considered. Northen courtyard may collect winter solar, supported by passive climate control, thermal massing system and sun shading on summer. Sustainable building materials are provided from local materials, including recycled materials and certified plywood. This house is also supported by rainwater catchment system to provide water. The location, the features of this sustainable home may provide good connection to the environment for the inhabitants. Completed with some outdoor or open room, this house will be a perfect house for those who need a fresh dwelling in a mountain area.
