Sustainable Building Design of Prefab Rondolino Residence by Nottoscale Posted: 23 Dec 2011 01:12 AM PST Rondolino Residence is a prefab house designed by Nottoscale. This green architecture building is located in the remote high desert of Nevada, surrounded by the beauty of desert environment. This is the first prototype of their model, T-modulome, which is aimed to achieve energy efficient construction.
This sustainable prefab house actually is formed by combination of two units. It is completed by 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large living / kitchen area. It is owned by an Italian journalist and writer. From the beginning to the end, the design and construction process were done by email. Panelized construction was chosen then modular system. This provided slightly higher cost as it was difficult to find skilled labour in remote area. This sustainable house has “t” shape, with private wing and public wing. It is surrounded by a deck that expands the outdoor space. Passive solar design and natural and stack ventilation take important role in order to control the heating and cooling process in the house. They are supported by hydronic radiant system. High performance insulation and tight envelope are formed by SIP materials, minimizing the heat loss. The sustainability is also supported by the use of Energy Star appliances, low-VOC paints, bamboo flooring, and FSC-certified wood, low e-coating double paned windows. The interior of this green infrastructure is dominated with white color, creating a simple but bright environment. All of the decorations and features are set to create a perfect vacation home. |
