Sustainable Remodeling for Belgium Le Lorraine Apartment Posted: 21 Nov 2011 10:07 PM PST MDW Architecture has done a great remodeling of an old apartment complex in Brussels. This make over is a sustainable remodeling as it provides energy consumption improvement for the building and make it a sustainable building.
The old apartment building was blocked by several tall walls and buildings surrounded. This condition prevented the light to penetrate the building. Remodeling was done to make this building more efficient in energy. It was done to provide more sustainable building, by raising the apartment complex, which includes one apartment building and 3 terrace house. The other concept is to make the interior clear These methods will encourage the penetration of natural daylighting which will minimize the energy consumed. To provide a good mixture to the natural environment, this new eco friendly building is completed with private garden for each units. The raising of the building level also provides a possibility for making a garage at street level and to avoid a total depollution of the site. The sustainable apartment building’s existing facade was incorporated into the renovation. New grey metallic slats were attached and fit well into the original industrial character. Metals were used to provide durability, while woods were also used for doors, frames, etc to provide warm feeling. To provide fresher environment, some plants were also planted. This eco friendly project provides an example for a sustainable way of remodeling an old building without involving too many new materials. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
