Green Architecture of Curl Curl Residence by CplusC Architects Posted: 17 Nov 2011 07:55 PM PST CplusC Architects designed a modern and sustainable house for a vacation home on Sydney’s north shore. This house was designed to compromise the warm to hot weather happens to Australia. Some green architecture principles, such as passive design, were applied to achieve high efficiency on energy and comfort.
This eco construction houses two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, a dining room, and a living room. They are actually designed as open spaces A central core divides the public space and the private space. This centrl space covers the laundry facilities and storage. A shared driveway, a services easement, and a compact site influenced the form of the building envelope and allowed the architects to maximise internal floor area without sacrificing external amenity. The division of these spaces is also accented by the slanted roof that meets in the center. This roof shape provides a way to collect the rainwater and store the water in an underground storage to be uses as hot water source. Natural ventilation is very important and maximized to achieve minimal amount of energy to control indoor condition. This system also provides good response to changing climate. Cedar materials, that usually are used for beach houses due to its ability to adapt with the environment, are used as folding slabs and blinds, supporting the natural ventilation on controlling the air flow. To help the house stay in cool condition, two fish pond and tons of surrounding vegetation are provided also. Natural daylighting is provided by a skylight installed over the length of home.
