The Eco Friendly Construction of Fennel Residence Posted: 24 Oct 2011 10:17 PM PDT Legendary architect, Robert Ozhatz, designed a unique sustainable home. It is a house that floats on Oregon’s Willamette River, used for a summer house of a family. As Robert’s other designs, this design is an eco friendly design, adopting passive concept.
This unique eco construction was formed from an industrial dock. The entire structure were made from natural eco friendly building materials, the glulam wood beams, made from a number of small pieces of timber that glued together. By this, the materials used can be reduced. The production of glulam is also easy and do not need great amount of energy. Also, glulam may provide lighter weight for the construction. The design was then combined with the unique swirling and curvy design, the signature of the architect. The sustainable floating building consists of two level, that houses the living area, bedrooms, bathrooms, dining room, also a space to enjoy the waterside. A window wall provides not only an optimal view access, but also the natural daylighting. A sliding glass door connected the outdoor deck to the indoor. Natural ventilation was also provided. With prefabricated materials used, and the construction of the sustainable home that was barged in on a boat, minimal disturbances of the natural river environment can be provided, and of course also minimizing energy needed during the construction. The result is a beautiful, unique, and eco friendly house. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
