Beautiful Eco Friendly Design of Vila Castela Residence Posted: 20 Oct 2011 08:19 PM PDT A beautiful and eco friendly design of home was made by Anastasia Architects, an architectural firm from Brazil.  It is located in Nova Lima, Brazil, built in a sloped site. The design accommodated the principle of eco construction and powered by alternative energy. It was built based on 4 concepts :  little interference in the site, better use of natural resources, integration to the surroundings, and a generous urban presence. This eco friendly construction was built in a 30 deg sloped site, supported by dramatic cantilevers to reduce the disturbances to the site. It has 3 floors, the basement, ground floor, and the first floor. The basement covers some leisure facilities, such as sauna, Jacuzzi, and an wine cellar. The ground floor covers living area and kitchen. This level is connected to the outdoor swimming pool and terrace. This level was built 7 meters below the street, and people may preserve  the pedestrian view of the beautiful forest surrounded. The privacy is kept by placing the main apertures and glass walls with east orientation, opposite to the road. The first floor covers the private area, such as bedrooms. The eco construction was built by utilizing concrete structure which may provide strength and durability. Cantilevers may provide light feeling of the building to the surroundings. The texture of the concrete is maintained, while the masonry is terracotta painted. These will provide low maintenance. The majority proportion of the building  face outwards down the hill with views of the forest, supported by glazed elevations, providing a beautiful view of forest and sunrise. For the energy source, this sustainable home uses alternative energy source, such as roof-mounted photovoltaic panels. The temperature at the site is very good,  28°Celsius in the summer, and 16° Celsius in the winter. Supported by the right orientation of the openings, this house will not need any artificial temperature control system. ref
