The location that is near Pasific Ocean becomes a great additional point for the inhabitants.
From the exterior, it looks like this sustainable home utilize wooden panels, and glass materials. The wooden panel is made from real wood veneer over a bakelite core. The construction itself was made from steel and integrally colored concrete masonry. The steel was chosen from materials that has at least 25% recycled content. These materials will provide good durability against the quake, and low maintenance. Light-gage steel materials are also used for the walls, roof and floors’ framing. Actually this eco friendly building was built by by adopting passive solar design and natural ventilation. The interior’s ventilation is provided naturally from the central atrium and clerestory windows. This house also is completed by sunshades that may protect the house from summer heat gain. The exterior surface area was minimized, while maximizing thermal performance were done by the uses of several good thermal performance materials, such as a membrane system with an aluminized coating for the “cool roof” system. The house is also completed by several green features, such as in-floor hydronic radiant system powered by a high-efficiency (95%, 50 gal.) natural gas water heater for the heat source, Low-flow showerheads and dual-flush toilets. For water source, this house is completed by rainwater catchment system in the roof, supported by two 1700-gallon pre-fabricated underground cisterns. Drought-tolerant and native plant varieties were chosen for the landscaping. They were planted in a south-facing kitchen garden. Other features to support the sustainable home design are the use of photovoltaic system to provide almost 95% of the electrical needs. Sustainable materials are also used for the interior, such as large-format unglazed porcelain ceramic tiles, which also act as thermal mass storage. Low VOC finishes were the first priority. The cabinetry were owned fabricated in the on-site workshop-garage. This simple eco architecture product is very compact with the size 48 ft L x 40 ft W x 23 ft H. It is very beautiful with all of its green features and durability. |
