Green Construction of Pioneer Cabin by Form & Forest Posted: 17 Mar 2011 05:21 PM PDT Form & Forest, cabin designer that usually designs a lot of great, modern cabin for weekend escape, etc, designed a beautiful flat-pack cabin, called The Pioneer. This prefab cabin has green construction. Flat-pack cabin is claimed to be the latter form of prefab construction that may provide easier way to be sent to remote area or have under developed access roads and driveways.
This two level sustainable prefab cabin was designed, completed with generous 2 Bedroom, 2 loft cabin with a vast living room. It has 180 deg floor-to-ceiling glass to maximize view and natural lighting. This environmentally friendly housing is also completed with cross ventilation and large overhang to protect the cabin from sunlight over-exposure. 2 patios are also available. For the sustainability aspect, this cabin can be optimized to use solar array. The slanted roof was designed as an ideal space for the solar array. An insulated concrete form (ICF) foundation is used, providing minimal heat lost. The septic is processed through a peat moss system. A lot of wooden materials, such as red cedar, plywood, etc are used in the fabrication. This green building‘s flat pack concept may provide fast assembling process than the traditional one. The components are packed flat, along with siding, doors, windows, and roofing materials. By this concept, less time, waste, and energy are needed to build the cabin than the traditional one. This 1,740 sq ft eco friendly design cabin is a perfect choice for trailblazers unwilling to settle for the ordinary cabin getaway, as it has good prefab concept, its portability, and its sustainability. |
