A Green Home Design by Anderson Anderson Architecture Posted: 28 Jan 2011 12:18 AM PST This sustainable home design is one of the Anderson Anderson Architecture‘s designs of sustainable building. This house, called “B-House” was built in Shimasaki, Kyusu Island, Japan, in collaboration with Nishiyama Architects, for two teachers. With several sustainable technologies involved, this house provides good contribution on making the world greener. This house is completed with two bedrooms and one bathroom. It is located on a terraced slope with beautiful views of orange groves, Kumamoto Castle and surrounding hills. The house was planned to be fully energy self-sufficient housing. To achieve the environmentally friendly house plans, several sustainable features are involved, also passive house concept is adopted. The house is facing the south, provides maximum advantages on passive solar heating, where the concrete floor acts serves as thermal ballast. At the north side of this house, there are up-sloped operable clerestory windows, providing maximum day-lighting without creating heat gain from the sun light. This windows also provide chimney-effect natural ventilation through the indoor area. To provide the energy, this green home building is completed with photovoltaic panels at the north roof side, facing to the south. There are also solar hot water heating; high-efficiency hydronic heating made ready for future geothermal ground loop. Water catchment roof system system is prepared for future green roof. The natural and sustainable materials are used to support the sustainable house design, such as concrete, plaster, and locally and sustainable harvested timber. It was designed simple, but robust. The design makes the maintenance low. It was designed with integrated system with a minimal budget compared to the standard budget for local houses. ref
