Sustainable Home Design of Great Barrier House Posted: 25 Jan 2011 11:28 PM PST The Great Barrier Island is a large island, 100 km to the north-east of central Auckland, New Zealand. It has beautiful environment, with a lot of native trees, such as Puriri, Blackwood, etc. Here, Crosson Clarke Carnachan Architects created a beautiful, sustainable home design, made from sustainable materials, such as timber produced by sustainable timber company. The green home building is surrounded with trees and beautifully designed to have a good mixture to the beautiful environment.
The sustainable design also considers the condition of the area where there is flood threat. The house was elevated. A lot of glazing windows and open area provide a thin layer between the outdoor and indoor activities, also provide good natural lighting for the house. Privacy is still protected by placing the bedrooms very near the tree configurations. When the climate becomes too hot, opening all doors and windows will provide natural ventilation. The E glass will also provide good insulation, creating a warm condition inside. This green home design is also completed by green technology. It uses solar panels to provide power and utilize the sun heat to heat water. Clever irrigation system was used to prevent the water over-using. The great thing in this environmentally friendly housing is a lot of activities can be done just like they are done outdoor. The design really creates the feeling to unite with the surroundings, very calm and beautiful. Some improvement should be considered, especially on the space-saving concepts on the overall design and the furniture using. However, this sustainable house is still gorgeous. |
