Green Design of Glass Townhouses by Sander Architects Posted: 16 Dec 2010 08:50 PM PST Glass Townhouses are a pair of three-story townhouses designed by considering the green home design concept by Sanders Architects. This eco friendly living was built at Venice, California, USA, using environmentally friendly products and materials. The location of this building is very strategic, as it is located at a corner lot 1/2 block from the famous Venice Canals and three blocks from the beach, which provide good surrounding view. As its name, the green home building has a double skin of translucent panels and glass for the long side, to capture the magnificent Southern California Lighting. This construction also provides natural lighting at daylight and allow the interior lightings provide a beautiful effect when seen from the street. The glass panels are configured in such way to slide past one another, past odd-shaped openings This building involves sustainable flooring material by using bamboo flooring. Several green products are also used to provide a good sustainable home design, such as low-flush toilet, on demand water heater, solar heating system, etc. Some environmentally friendly products are also involved, such as low-VOC paint, cabinetry built from local managed forests, multi-cell acrylic panels (with high R-value) for glazing to reduce heat loss/gain, etc. The green design concept considered for this building include the windows configuration to provide natural air flow through the building, the minimal landscaping with native plants to minimize the water using. The Canal Side building has exposed steel structure that creates a soaring metal sculpture up the double height entrance. The Venice Boulevard side unit has views of the Santa Monica mountains and a sense of being in the tree tops from both upper floors. All of these features turn this building into a beautiful eco friendly living. ref
