Green Furniture Design by Chen Wei-che and Chung Yo-hsun Posted: 26 Nov 2010 12:23 AM PST Chen Wei-che and Chung Yo-hsun created a sustainable furniture design called zhè from bagasse, sugarcane byproduct.
The designers created the organic furniture to utilize the sugarcane industry byproducts that are largely available in Taiwan. For every 10 tonnes sugarcane crushed, 3 tonnes wet bagasse can be produced. The production process is almost similar with the paper pulp table, Mache. The composition of the materials includes the paper pulp, and the resin, beside the bagasse. All of the materials can be recycled materials. All of these materials are then molded using wooden molding, and shaped to create a lot of green furniture designs, such as writing desk, and other green furniture. Although it was a great idea to make such sustainable furniture like these, the strength of the product should be tested, also the shape should be reformed to be more beautiful, before the furniture become commercially produced. The idea to recycle the waste of sugarcane industries into environmentally friendly products should be appreciated in order to minimize the CO2 emission, as one of the greenhouse gas emission, from burning the materials. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
