Sustainable Block 19 by Bercy Chen Studio LP Posted: 11 Sep 2010 03:41 AM PDT Block 19 is a sustainable mixed use building, designed by Bercy Chen Studio LP, located in the Revitalization District of East 11th Street, Austin, Texas. Some retail stores, offices and residential condominiums are included in this building.
This building consists of 11 retail stores and offices, 20 residential condominiums, and accessible top roof deck. The location itself is a large business area in Texas, consists of many different retail shops, restaurant, offices, and cultural groups. The Block 19 building is designed with unique environment and visualization. With all of its features, including the sustainable features, this building tries to combine all of diversities and activities in one building. The unique colorful sun shields, made from multi-faceted steel panel screen, are spread along the upper south and west facades. These sun shields describe the characteristic of the building as a dynamic and modern building. The sun shields has two functions, as shading devices and also as guardrails for the residential balconies. Full-height glassing are used in the entire of the ground floor, installed in steel structure. This gives the illusion of the entire building floating on cubes of glass. This feature also maximize the natural lighting, especially for the ground floor where sometimes natural sun lighting is blocked by the building’s body or other objects. This building is also completed with green vertical screens from some native plants arranged as a screen. This screen can also act as air filter. At the top of the building, there are two garden roof areas. They can be used for outdoor activities, and also can be the further insulation for the building’s top area. With all of these sustainable features, this building will be a healthy building, and free smoke building.
Some vendors available in Block 19, such as : Eclectic Images Photography, Modesty Hair Studio, Moxie! and Code Studio. Outside the front door, you’ll find Blue Dahlia Bistro, J Kelly’s BBQ, East End Wines, Eastside Yoga, Switched ON Music Electronics, LongBranch Inn, East Side Pies, Ecoxera, The Victory Grill, Bydee Art Gallery, French Legation Museum, Soma Vida Wellness and Acupuncture, The New Movement, and more. Three new restaurants and several other businesses are joining the neighborhood, including East End Market, a fabulous urban grocery/coffee house. |
