Sustainable Modular Prefab Ovolution Posted: 25 Aug 2010 11:21 PM PDT A sustainable modular prefab house was designed by Rolf Disch Solar Architecture in colaboration with WeberHaus. It is called Ovolution, referred to the terms of evolution and ecology. This house won the 1997 European Solar Prize.
The modular feature provides possibility to built single house, or duplex, or a group of housing. The most unique sustainable feature that is provided to this house is the photovoltaic panel. WeberHaus and Rolf Disch applied the Plus Energy concept for this house. The Plus Energy concept makes this house can provide the needs of energy by itself. Thanks to the photovoltaic panels installed on the roof. The panels cover most of the roof part, also the awning structure of the roof. This house is also completed with several sustainable features. This house has a lot of large glass windows to provide natural lighting at daylight. This house also only need very little additional heating that can be fulfilled from some renewable resources such as a wood pellet oven. The solar thermal collectors are also used to provide heat for the shower, dish washer, etc. This house also has controlled ventilation system to provide better air condition inside every rooms. This system also provides protection for the heat loss on cold condition. All of these sustainable features can be combined with an intelligent control system, so they can be automated, for the example to automate the mechanism of ventilation closing and heating system will be inactive when the windows are opened. With this system, this house will be a clever zero energy house. |
