Posted: 03 Aug 2010 11:40 PM PDT A unique idea of seating was made by Doshi Levien, a reading chair, called Paper Planes. This chair was designed for Moroso.
The unique aspect of this chair is the fabric used. The fabric has folded graph paper pattern which reminds us to the mathematical and scientific images. This aspects is contrast to the joyful characteristic of Swarovski Crystal Elements provided in the design. The base fabric is made by Kvaradt, the Remix type. Check pattern is printed and the crystals are applied as the adjacent line. The crystals will show their beauty “blink” effect when the light gleams off them. A jacquard version are also available, with no crystals applied and the silver weave of Moroso logo.
The Paper Planes name is considered from the modeling process. The chair form was developed by darting and folding paper and card. The process was also considering the check pattern of the fabrics. The design provides the user to have possibility of move around and recline at different positions.

Container Studio by Jim Poteet Posted: 03 Aug 2010 09:04 PM PDT A container studio was designed by Jim Poteet from Poteet Architects. This container studio is used for a playhouse, a garden retreat, also a guesthouse in San Antonio.
The eco-friendly aspects are considered in almost all of the building parts. The foundation structure is made from recycled telephone poles. The uses of “floor to ceiling” glass doors and windows also provide better natural lighting through the container. It also provides better boundary between outdoor and indoor living to maximize the garden retreat purpose. The architect added bamboo flooring, air conditioner and heater, an electric composting toilet from Sun-Mar, also bamboo wall-covering for the container. Grey water processing system is available and the water is used for watering the garden. Spray foam insulation is also provided to protect the housing from heat and cool conditions.
Porch is available in front of the container. It can be used for outdoor activities and other casual activities. Polygal sheet shade is available in this area to protect the user from direct sun light and rain. Lamps from recycled tractor components are attached to make it more beauty. The container studio was made from 8 x 40 ft shipping container. Some of the areas are used as the garden, such as a green roof on a drip watering system. A cantilevered overhang on the rear side is also planted by cacti. Some plants are also be planted around the container.
