White Perrin House by Dock4 Architecture Posted: 16 Jun 2010 11:05 PM PDT White Perrin House was designed by Dock4 Architecture on a 18.2 hectare site, on the eastern coast of North Bruny Island, a short distance south of Dennes Point. This house has dramatic views over Storm Bay to Cape Raoul and deep ocean beyond. The client chose to locate the house on the edge of the steepest part of the site, to create the dramatic and stunning views of the coast and the seas. To provide this situation, the house should be anchored to the steep slope while leaning out towards the views. By setting the windows position, the views can be captured from every room of the house. Energy efficient is also considered. Some consideration should be taken carefully for the passage of the sun at all times of year to ensure that the house was warm and light-filled. High spec timber framed double glazing and substantial insulation are also used. For the materials, natural timber is dominant. The sustainable features includes the recycled and durable materials used for this house. This 1,600 sq ft house is called “the ultimate desert structure” by its owner. The unique sustainable feature in this house is the prominent steel canopy. The canopy shelters and shades the home. Its structure is made to provide a cooling mechanism by the wind passed in the gab between the canopy and the house building. It also protect the house from the sun.
