The Green Architecture of CaliMini Prefab by Sustain Design Studio Posted: 08 Mar 2012 10:19 PM PST Another sustainable prefab home was designed by Sustain Design Studio, called CaliMini Prefab. This green architecture prefab house is designed for western US market, and will have four models, from size about 611 – 1,190 square feet (not counting the loft).
This sustainable house is built on a chassis. It can be classified as a park model trailer or manufactured home, depending the location where the house will be laid. It may be anchored to concrete Sonotube piers or a concrete slab-on-grade pad. The design involves the use of some sustainable building materials which are well engineered, such as engineered lumber frame construction, Ecobatt insulation (R22 floor, R19 walls, R38 roof), house wrap, Marvin Integrity windows, a Proseal roof membrane, cedar and HardiePanel siding, Baltic Birch ply walls and ceiling, cork floors. They are also supported by some energy efficient features such as LED and CFL lighting, Energy Star appliances, and low-flow fixtures. Other sustainable features provided for this eco construction are a tankless hot water heater, good ventilation system, and for alternative energy source, this house is powered by solar photovoltaic panels. The eco friendly construction has no no vinyl, no CFCs, no drywall, and no toxic materials for its construction materials. This eco friendly home will be available soon, and will be on display at Dwell on Design 2012 in June. |
