Drew House, an Eco Construction by Simon Laws Posted: 01 Mar 2012 08:21 PM PST Drew House, designed by Simon Laws, is an eco construction built as a holiday retreat of Australian photographic artist, Marian Drew, and her family. It is located in the area near Seventeen Seventy, a town just south of Gladstone, near the ocean. With its unique form, this house provides a kind of luxury campsite.
This sustainable architecture building actually is a prefab construction. The living and sleeping pods, along with a bath house were built in Brisbane. This will minimize the site disturbances along the construction period. There are outdoor space and separated indoor pavilions to provide privacy for the inhabitants. The decks and the parabolic roofed structure connect the various pods through a large central outdoor living and dining area. Some sustainable building materials are used. Materials from nature are dominated, such as Natural oiled timbers. Low finished materials can provide a healthier environment. Some sustainable features, such as rainwater catchment system, solar panels for heating water, etc provide high energy efficiency. Passive design was also adopted. With all of these features, supported by the unique form of this sustainable home, this house will be a great vacation house amongst mature Bloodwoods and Cabbage Palms. |
