Sustainable Tiburon Bay House by Butler Armsden Architects Posted: 27 Feb 2012 11:40 PM PST Tiburon House was designed by Butler Armsden Architects, and built by McDonald Construction & Development, Inc. It is a sustainable architecture building with a lot of sustainable features. The site itself was used by a 1,500 square-foot home that was deconstructed by hand. 95% of the materials were then reused or recycled for this sustainable house.
This eco construction is owned by Helene Marsh, located in the San Fransico Bay Area. It has contemporary design, combined with green architecture aspects. This is one of the first LEED-H Platinum certified custom homes in Northen California that may achieve Platinum certification with 114 points. This sustainable home is powered by alternative energy source, solar power, provided by 5 kW solar photovoltaic system. It may cover 80% of electrical needs. Hot water system is also powered by solar panels. Natural day-lighting, and natural ventilation were also optimized by optimizing the orientation of the openings. Some Energy Star appliances and o high energy efficient lighting are used to achieve good energy efficiency. Sustainable building materials taken from reused / recycled materials of the former house building were used for the construction. Some materials, such as recycled steel, LVL, timberstrand, FSC-certified wood, Western Red Cedar siding, and OSB, were combined to create a good, durable, eco friendly construction. sustainable finishing materials were also used. This green architecture house also has rainwater collection system and grey water processing system to provide water source of the house. By all of its sustainable features, supported by the view of water and bridge from the bedroom and living area, this house will provide pleasure and comfort for the owner. |
