The Sustainability of Modern House in Lake Lugano Posted: 19 Sep 2011 11:08 PM PDT A luxurious house was designed and built in Lake Lugano by JM Architects. The location provides very beautiful view of the lake, as this lake is one of the beautiful lakes with less touristy, peaceful and lush. The simple house is completed with several sustainable features and was built in special design condition.
This sustainable home was built partially submerged into the land at the slope of a hill overlooking Lake Lugano. It consists of two parts, oriented to the topography of the site. The upper one, a rounded polygonal pavilion, is used for communal spaces such as living room, dining room, kitchen, and storage, while the lower part is used for private spaces such as bedrooms, bathrooms, and garage. Both of the parts are connected to the outdoor spaces. To enhance the natural lighting and maximize the view, the transparency of this eco friendly construction was set in such ways. Floor-to-ceiling glassings were used as walls and windows. This also creates a thin boundary between the indoor part and the outdoor. To create a perfect blending with the nature, there are plants that were planted in the pavilion’s roof. Deciduous trees have been also planted at the south-west area of the building, and act as natural sun shading. Some sustainable features that were provided for the house, such as the use of low E, argon filled windows, geothermal power system for the sustainable energy source, skylights that may provide additional natural lighting. The use of white color cladding for perimeter walls and the white gravel for the upper part (pavilion part) also provide a natural sun light reflector, help to keep the home’ temperature low. A ring-like space on the north of this eco building provides natural ventilation and lighting for the living areas. |
