| Green Construction of HGTV Green Home in Denver Posted: 12 Apr 2011 11:01 PM PDT HGTV is giving away n a green home to a lucky winner, in its 4th year running. This home was built in the Stapleton infill redevelopment in Denver, Colorado, a new urbanist walkable community area. The community features Energy Star green homes, with 30% more energy efficient than standard homes and 20% more water efficient than typical Denver households. The HGTV’s itself became 1 of 40 LEED Platinum Certified Project in the state, just in time for their giveaway contest which starts April 15th. This architecture plans for this green home building are the property of by Michael L. Woodley, A.I. A., built by Infinity Home Collection. This green residential building is completed with 3 bedrooms, and 2 bathroom. The design is inspired by the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, combined with subtle nods to airplane design. The home is also completed with open private area where the inhabitants and the neighbours can have some relax conversations. With the mixture of contemporary, modern, and luxurious interior, this house offers more than sustainability to the owner.  The green construction involved several sustainable materials for the interior and exterior, such as the using of no-VOC paints, the using of old radiator and pipe for chair material, Shaw Epic 100% recycled wood-fiber floors, beetle kill wood doors, recycled-content blown-cellulose for insulation, etc. Modern technology is also used by using iPad for monitoring and controling the lighting, security, etc. The green building construction was also done with advanced framing techniques such as removing headers in non-load-bearing walls, framing the exterior with 24″ on center (using 2x6s), using a three-stud corner, and installing engineered products in the floor and roof assemblies.  A 5 kW solar system is available to provide 75% energy for this sustainable living home. The use of syntetic grass which are recyclable, and permeable, can reduce the water using. Some plants used in the landscape are drought tolerant. With all of these sustainable features, this sustainable house building can achive a HERS Rating of 38, means 62% more efficient than a standard new home built to the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code. What a great house, where the luxurious, contemporary, and sustainability are mixed in a balance portion.        |
