Sustainable Design of The Bamboo Forest House by ROEWU Posted: 26 Dec 2010 05:13 PM PST This green construction was designed by ROEWUarchitecture, to fulfill the need of eco friendly living that can deal with the hot and muggy condition of urban Taiwan. This house is called The Bamboo Forest House. As its name, this house involved bamboo materials in its sustainable design. The bamboos was used to form screen wrap covering  the two upper levels of the house, replacing the function of steel bars usually used. This house, located on a long narrow and tight plot bordered on three sides by houses with shared walls, is a three-story home. The green home design concepts were applied to provide better natural lighting and natural ventilation as this house only has free opening toward the street. The bamboo screen can provide possibility of making more windows that can be opened widely to provide natural lighting at daylight and maximize natural air flow to provide good natural ventilation. The house also has double or maybe triple-height void spaces to maximize the air flow. By this eco friendly design, this house does not need any air conditioning devices which consume a lot of electricity loads. The bamboo construction was design very detail with a user friendly assembling instruction so the contractor can install them easily. This bamboo screen has unique concealed fixtures to connect each bamboo. The screen looks floating, creating a beautiful 3D effect and providing a good security protection for the house. The use of bamboo materials also provide feeling of living in a bamboo forest. The tree-story house green home building contains 6 bedrooms, completed with an outdoor living space in the upper floor, and several entertainment facilities at the second floor, such as karaoke lounge and spa. The rooftop deck space which is used as the outdoor living space is also covered by the bamboo screen, completed with a variably-patterned sun-shade system, creating a cool condition when it is used at summer time. This great sustainable house design was realized by local Taiwanese contractor. ref
